Three Easy Tips for Holiday Pet Travel

PetJets.net is a directory for travelers to find pet-friendly private jets for their travel needs. We are pet lovers at our very core, and wanted to pass along a couple of basic, helpful tips for safe travel with your pets this Holiday Season, and truly any time of the year! We want you to get your pets safely to your awaiting jet, to enjoy being part of the "Pet Jet Set"!

1. When your pet is in your car with you, the best thing that you can do is ensure that they are restrained. We put on our seatbelts, your pets should be equally secured. In fact, recently I saw an incident that could have been very tragic. At a stop light, a beautiful dog seemingly slipped/jumped/fell out of an open window of an SUV. The driver panicked, jumped out of her SUV and retrieved her dog who got confused and started to wonder back into the traffic lane. Even I wanted to jump out to assist her and her poor doggie!

You can easily purchase a leash/seatbelt or harness, depending upon the size of your pet, or a special carseat for smaller pets. Keeping them secure keeps them not only keeps them safer, that security helps you to drive safely to your destination. With weather conditions getting interesting at this time of the year, having your pet restrained is peace of mind for you and helps you concentrate on the road!

2. Make sure that you pack snacks, fresh water, even extra food. While you may be driving a short distance, traffic jams, accidents, even rapidly changing weather conditions can make a quick trip a long adventure! This will help your pet stay calm, healthy, and happy for the duration of the drive. Again, this also brings you peace of mind for any driving conditions that get challenging.

3. A pet first aid kit is a crucial tool to have in your car for any time that you drive with your pet. Many of us travel with a small first aid kit for the "two-legged" members of the family, your beloved family pet needs the same first aid assistance should they become ill, or there is an accident. This kit should also include backups of any medications your pet takes. A great tip is have copies of all vaccinations, a recent color photo of your pet (should you somehow be separated from your pet), and the name/number of your vet all secured in a small baggie taped to the top of the first aid kit. This information could be vital for the safety and well-being of your pet, having it all in one place at your fingertips will again be more peace of mind for you.
